Musikene-Higher School of Music of the Basque Country, located in San Sebastian, was created in 2001 by the Basque government with the aim of providing higher music education and its specific legal structure gives the institution a similar status to the universities. During this short period, Musikene has become in a reference in the field of music education.

The main objective is to provide quality education leading to professional qualifications in the areas of performance, creation, conducting and teaching, in order to provide students with the practical skills and training necessary to meet the requirements of society and the world of work in the 21st century.

Musikene has created a network of agreements with more than 70 cultural entities in the surrounding area with the aim of providing artistic experiences for its students and connecting classroom activity with the public and society. These include professional orchestras, music festivals, universities and research centres.
