In-Voice: Lithuania
The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) is an internationally recognised higher education institution which trains artists for a professional career in music, theatre, dance and film and offers related theoretical studies. Founded in 1933, the Academy currently hosts about 1,000 students in three study cycles – Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral – in its three faculties, two of which are based in Vilnius, one in Klaipėda.
The LMTA prepares musicians (solo performers, improvisers, orchestra musicians, accompanists specialising in keyboard, string, wind or percussion instruments, orchestral and choral conducting), actors, music directors for theatre, cinema and television, sound operators, art historians: musicologists, theatrologists, film science specialists and educators, lecturers, critics, publishers, managers and administrators. The Academy collaborates with the creative industry and social partners to promote young artists and boost cultural development.
Research, artistic research and educational achievements are published in the LMTA’s scientific journals and are presented at national and international conferences.
